Contractor participation in industry tradeshows is a great indicator that the contractor is engaged and involved in reputable circles. Entities like NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) vet members prior to their acceptance to the organization. Active members often surround themselves with other reputable, reliable, industry experts. Performance expectations, conduct, ethical behavior, and the like all trend on the up and up when there is so much accountability to be had among peers.

For consumers, tradeshows are a great way to escape the black hole of internet research. Attending gives them the chance to talk one on one with industry experts in a no-pressure environment. Bringing photos of one’s own home, magazine cut outs, and other inspirations to share with contractors can be a great way to get things started. Exploring what can be done and perhaps even rough budgets is certainly feasible. Soft interviewing the different contractor firms is also invaluable for finding the right fit. While many construction principles are the same, the culture of each business, and how it fits for the consumer, is unique. Consumers should strive to find a comfortable fit no matter what.
